Forum rulesPlease read the following rules before posting a download request in this area:1. Don't post a request if you have under 10 posts as stated on the front page. If you do anyway, it will be deleted without further notice. This also applies to other members: If you see a request by someone with less than 10 posts and it hasn't been deleted yet, please don't reply to it.2. Don't request for warez or any copyrighted software. If you have your own FTP server where you'd like other members to upload what you're looking for to, please don't post its login details in any open forum as that will probably lead to abuse.
Post the login details in the Private Servers section instead.4. Check that we don't already have the file on our FTP servers. If you don't have access to the FTP servers then ask someone who has (a moderator for example). I been doing a bit of digging round and autodesk no long appear to have the service pack or any updates around. From what i heard 4.0 is a pain without these updates, i believe even a performance pack is around that would be useful if anyone still got it.The name of this file is '3dsmax42update.exe', which upgrades from 4.0 to 4.2.EDIT:I was rifling through my hodgepodge files, and discovered another update about which I had forgotten, '3dsmax42PerfPackI05'.
This was a BETA update from Autodesk/discreet for those with P4 CPU's, and designed to address performance issues (YMMV). Tiebrakre, do you have Character Studio 4 for 3dsmax 5? I lost my copy years ago.Ack! That's an expensive loss.Well, yes and no, to answer your question. When Max 4.2 was released there were/are two options: install CS 2.2 or 3.2 (included in the box was a copy of CS 3.0, which is the stand alone upgrade for 3D Studio R3.1 - that's the one of mine that broke and have since located an OEM replacement.
YAY!).EDIT The file for Max 4 - 4.2, '3dsmax42update.exe', contains CS 3.2.For Max 5.1, the install option were/are: CS 3.4 and CS 4.0 (to use CS 4.0 req. Purchase after pressing 'biped'). The secondary disc simply has all the extra tutorial media for CS 3.4.UPDATE.Character Studio 3.01, by discreet, for both the Kinetix version (it has a purple and silver disc) and the discreet version (it has solid blue discs and white letters) of Max R3.1, has been uploaded to the FTP. I included the 3.01 - 3.02, and 3.02 - 3.03 updates as well in the upload.TRIVIA ALERT!3D Studio Max R3.1 is the.only. Max title to bear the logo of two different Autodesk divisions on each respective release: Kinetix and discreet.3D Studio Max R3 by Kinetix, which includes Character Studio 2.2 and the World Creation Toolkit, has been uploaded to FTP.3D Studio Max R3.1 by discreet that I have, is an EDU version (it has an orange HW Lock - commercial versions came with a blue HW lock), and probably won't UL it.
It appears full versions are desired here.Max 4, aka Max R4 by discreet, is in the process of being prepared. Mrpijey wants every scrap of paper and medium for a proper preservation. Dumps are done, scans about 75% completed, and this one will take a while to upload to FTP.I also want to upload my titles in numerical order.
I am also compiling the older versions of 3d studio. I have pretty much everything down to about r2 of the dos version and a whole heap of IPAS plugins, that I have collected since the latter half of the 90s. Also compiled a lot of stuff from the early max versions including world creation kit for max 2(I haven't seen this anywhere).
I would upload this to the ftp however I haven't got an account yet. Also what I haven't found yet is the very first version of 3d Studio dos(Autodesk 3D-Studio 1.01). I've found references to it at an old cd compilation called 'TODO CAD' CD6 (Spanish I think), here: and an old text file indexing all the files on that disk, '3DS101.ZIP' is the one. For preservation it would be really good to have a complete library of the older versions of 3d studio. What do you guys think?
